TCM Zurich: Claude Scheer giving a Tuina massage on the neck and shoulder in his practice in Zurich-Albisrieden

More Than 25 Years of Experience with TCM in Zurich

Are you looking for a TCM practice in Zurich where someone takes time for you? For more than 25 years I have been treating patients in Zurich-Albisrieden (District 9) with acupuncture, Tuina massage and Chinese herbal medicine – personally, calmly and tailored to your complaints. As a naturopath TCM with the Swiss federal diploma, I am recognised by the EMR and NVS; most health insurers cover treatment through supplementary insurance. From the city centre you can reach me by tram 3 in about 15 minutes; Altstetten, Höngg and Wiedikon are right next door.

Your First Appointment: What to Expect in the First 90 Minutes

The first step towards relief begins with a detailed initial consultation (medical history). In the first 90 minutes we take time to look not only at your current symptoms but at your whole state of health in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This includes:

  • An in-depth conversation about your medical history, lifestyle and goals.
  • The classic pulse and tongue diagnosis, to determine the inner energetic pattern (e.g. blocked energy or states of deficiency) precisely.
  • A first individual treatment (e.g. acupuncture, Tuina massage or discussing initial dietary recommendations and herbal formulas), so that you experience the therapeutic effect straight away.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does health insurance pay for the treatment?

Yes. As a naturopath (TCM) with the Swiss federal diploma and with my quality labels (EMR, NVS), treatments for classic massage and TCM therapies are recognised by the vast majority of Swiss supplementary insurance plans for complementary medicine. It is best to check briefly with your health insurer in advance.

No. You can book an appointment at my practice in Albisrieden directly, without a doctor’s referral.

A little – but differently from what most people expect: a short, fine prick, often just a pulling sensation that fades again straight away. I have described exactly how the needles feel and how you can have a say during the session on the acupuncture page.

The number of sessions is very individual and depends on your personal healing process. In my more than 25 years of practice I have learned that full transparency about procedure and fees is the basis for treatment built on trust.

With acute complaints, a clear improvement often shows after just 3 to 5 appointments. For chronic or more complex issues, we usually plan a series of 10 to 12 sessions. Depending on the individual situation, however, more appointments may also be useful to secure a truly lasting result. We discuss your progress and the next steps together after each treatment.

I try to offer appointments at short notice – often it works out in the same or the following week. You can easily request your appointment by phone, via WhatsApp or using the contact form.

Chinese medicine has treatments for every age, right down to babies. In my practice, however, I only use acupuncture from about 12 to 13 years of age – and only if the young person wants it themselves.

If the parents like the idea of the treatment and the child merely puts up with it, I do not do it. It does little for recovery, and anyone who has such an experience as a child hardly ever turns to it again as an adult – not even when it would do them good.

For younger children and for anyone who does not want needles, Chinese herbal therapy is a full alternative. I put together the formula to suit age and complaints.

Of course. Besides German, I offer consultations fluently in French, English, Spanish and Italian (ideal for international patients in Zurich, too).

It cannot replace emergency care, cannot repair damaged structures and cannot resolve chronic patterns in two sessions. I have written openly about where my work reaches its limits, when I first send you for a medical check-up and when I stop a treatment: What Chinese medicine cannot do.

As a naturopath TCM with the Swiss federal diploma, I support you holistically in Zurich West with acupuncture, Tuina massage, Chinese herbal medicines and dietary advice.
